CCA Health Michigan General Manager Brian Keane authored an op-ed discussing the importance of stable, affordable housing to the health and well-being of Michigan residents.

Individuals without access to affordable housing may prioritize paying their rent or mortgage ahead of paying for nutritious food, Keane wrote. An interruption in home utilities can also have adverse health effects, such as the inability to use medical equipment that relies on electricity.

“Understanding the connection between housing and health is vital to improve health outcomes. Health plans, providers and other healthcare organizations can play a key role in addressing housing insecurity by identifying individuals who are at risk and connecting them to the programs and services they need,” he wrote.
