Which CCA Massachusetts Medicare Plan is right for me?

Choosing a Medicare Advantage plan is not a decision you make lightly. It’s important to carefully consider your options and make a choice based on your needs and budget. We’d like to guide you through the decision-making process as we explore the three plan options offered by Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA).

Step 1: Determine your eligibility

If you are age 65 or older, have Medicare and MassHealth Standard together, or MassHealth only, you are eligible for CCA Senior Care Options (HMO D-SNP). This plan provides all the coverage of MassHealth Standard and Medicare, plus more benefits at no cost to you. See the chart below for benefit details.

If you are eligible for Medicare only, you qualify CCA Medicare Preferred (PPO) or CCA Medicare Value (PPO). Both of these plans provide “all-in-one” coverage at affordable monthly plan payments.

Step 2: Consider your healthcare needs and budget

Our Medicare Advantage plans vary in price and in the benefits they offer. When choosing a plan, you should take into account two factors: what it covers and what it costs.

CCA Medicare Preferred offers a wide range of benefits for $0 a month. When you sign up, you get all the coverage of Medicare. Plus, routine dental services, prescription drugs, help with over-the-counter products, and more.

CCA Medicare Value offers all the same benefits as CCA Medicare Preferred. But it also includes additional benefits and greater savings for some services. In exchange, you pay a low monthly plan payment of $36.30. If you qualify for the Extra Help program, you may even pay less.

If you qualify for an HMO Special Needs (D-SNP) plan, CCA Senior Care Options offers the most robust benefits of all our plans. Benefits include all the coverage of MassHealth Standard, Medicare, and more—for $0 a month.

We’ll look at the benefits of these plans in more detail in the next step.

Step 3: Review and compare plan benefits

Important Considerations

As we noted earlier, you should weigh cost vs. coverage and determine what is most important to you in a health plan. For instance, if you don’t want to pay a monthly premium, CCA Medicare Preferred is a wise choice. But if you’re looking for additional benefits, you may want to consider CCA Medicare Value. These benefits include identity theft protection or transportation services. Also note: If you qualify for the Extra Help program, your monthly premium for the CCA Medicare Value plan may be lower.
