Bill’s story

In 1977, when Bill was 18 years old and just out of high school, he became paralyzed following a motorcycle accident. But that never stopped him from loving life and enjoying it to the fullest extent possible. He’s always considered himself fortunate because his paralysis is only from the chest down and he has good use of his arms. But for 37 years Bill had to deal with a fragmented healthcare system that didn’t meet his needs, and that wasn’t easy.

Everything changed for Bill when he joined the CCA One Care program in 2013.

“It’s amazing that I don’t have to worry about figuring out my care. CCA One Care is great. It’s perfect.”

As a One Care member, Bill now has a dedicated team of caregivers who call and visit him regularly, checking on how he’s doing and finding out what he needs that day. Personal care attendants come by every morning to help Bill get dressed and handle some daily chores. They run errands and do shopping for him.

Bill says that he couldn’t live alone, independently, if it weren’t for his One Care team. Bill’s care manager, Kim, coordinates health services from all of Bill’s providers. She arranged for visits from a physical therapist, who helped Bill get a new wheelchair, something he’d needed for years. Bill appreciates how much easier life is now, but he says it’s even more important that his care comes from the heart: “That’s the amazing part about it…it’s coming from the heart.”
