On the site of the former Shattuck Hospital campus in Boston, Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) manages a first-of-its-kind community that provides temporary housing to individuals who previously lived at the encampment at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard.
In partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and City of Boston, CCA provides services to the residents of these heated, secure cottages. The programs available to residents include substance use disorder treatment and other behavioral health services. Residents are also encouraged to take part in group activities, from gathering in the community center to planting gardens in the planters outside each cottage.
The role of CCA in this pioneering effort has been covered by regional media outlets including WCVB and The Boston Globe.
