Gianini leads integrated team of public policy, public relations, federal, and state affairs operations, while Weader leads operations of CCA’s legal department.

BOSTON, MA – May 25, 2023Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA) has appointed Elizabeth Gianini as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and David Weader as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Both Gianini and Weader are key appointments to CCA’s senior leadership team intended to support the company’s growing and innovative model focused on improving the health and well-being of people with complex care needs.

CCA is a mission-driven healthcare services organization that offers high-quality health plans and care delivery programs designed for individuals with significant needs. With offerings in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Michigan, and California, CCA delivers comprehensive, integrated, and person-centered care by coordinating the services of local staff, provider partners, and community organizations.

With more than 30 years’ experience in public policy, government, and regulatory affairs, Gianini will define and advance the company’s public affairs endeavors, while leading the organization’s Public Affairs functions, including Public Policy, Public Relations, Federal Affairs, and State Affairs.Gianini joins CCA after serving most recently in government relations leadership roles at both DentaQuest and WellCare Health Plans Inc.

She is a seasoned public affairs leader with decades of experience navigating the evolving and complex healthcare arena,” said Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Goodman, CAA’s Chief Legal & Public Affairs Officer. “As states explore new models for serving vulnerable, high-needs Medicare and Medicaid participants, Elizabeth’s collaborative and results-driven approach will be instrumental to CCA’s continued success in meeting the medical, social and behavioral health needs of the individuals we serve.”

Gianini received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and History from Salem College in North Carolina and completed intensive Spanish language programs in Ecuador and Costa Rica.

Weader joins CCA from Geisinger Health Plan, where he spent 16 years providing legal and regulatory advice to senior leadership, as well as oversight of the health plan’s governance activities. During his time at Geisinger, Weader built a proven track record of cross-functional strategic collaboration. At CCA, Weader will provide a proactive approach to delivering high quality legal support and services and strategic counsel to his colleagues on the senior leadership team to support CCA’s dynamic, growing, and innovative health plan and care delivery system.

“David has a deep understanding of the Medicaid and Medicare arenas as well as extensive expertise in regulatory and legal matters for integrated health systems. He will be an invaluable asset for CCA as we continue our efforts to support dual-eligible individuals and lead the nationwide shift toward integrated care,” said Goodman, adding “David brings a proven track record and the necessary institutional knowledge to solidify CCA’s industry presence and national leadership. We are thrilled to have him join our CCA team.”

Weader received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, his MHA in Health Services Management and Policy from The Ohio State University, and his B.A. from Vanderbilt University. As an active leader among his professional networks, Weader served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Managed Care Organizations and on the membership council of the Association of Community Affiliated Plans.
