As holiday gatherings move indoors and flu activity increases, patients—particularly those with chronic conditions—are at greater risk for serious illness and hospitalization. A timely recommendation from you can help protect their health this season.
Why it Matters
Most CCA members have multiple chronic conditions, putting them at greater risk for serious complications from influenza. Annual vaccination is one of the most effective ways to keep patients healthy and out of the hospital.
Your Role
- Recommend confidently: A clear, positive suggestion such as, “You’re due for your flu vaccine; we can take care of that today”, helps patients feel informed and supported.
- Address concerns thoughtfully: If a patient hesitates, ask open-ended questions and listen to their perspective before sharing reassurance or clarifying misconceptions.
- Make it easy: When possible, offer convenient options like standing orders, on-site vaccination, or flexible scheduling to reduce missed opportunities.
Special Reminder
Encourage all patients to get vaccinated and remind those 65+ to request the high-dose flu vaccine for stronger protection.
