Steward Bankruptcy Filing  

We understand Steward Health Care’s bankruptcy filing raises uncertainty and that your patients may have questions about this. Please know we have directed CCA members to their PCP or to our Member Services team for any questions or information needed.

Update as of October 31, 2024: Hospital closures

Steward has announced the permanent closure of Norwood Hospital and four affiliated satellite locations. As of November 5, 2024, the following sites will NOT be open for appointments or procedures:

Update as of July 3, 2024: Out-of-network urgent care coverage

 The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is expanding access to out-of-network urgent care clinics for a 90-day period in Eastern Massachusetts. For dates of service beginning July 3, 2024, through October 1, 2024, CCA will cover services provided by out-of-network urgent care clinics located in the following counties: Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket for One Care or Senior Care Options (SCO) members. Update as of July 30, 2024: Two Hospitals Closing

Steward Health Care has announced its intentions to close two of its eight hospitals in Massachusetts: Carney Hospital in Dorchester and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, which are slated for a phasedown in services and total closure on August 31, 2024. Currently, all other Steward Hospitals, Medical Centers, and Physician Offices remain open and continue to serve patients.  We have directed CCA members who have upcoming appointments at either Carney Hospital or Nashoba Valley Medical Center to contact their primary care physician if they need to reschedule appointments at a different facility.  CCA Member Services is also available to help find other facilities in the area.   

Update as of August 2, 2024: Bankruptcy Letter Received by Patients

 CCA has learned that some Steward patients may have received a letter titled “Notice of Deadlines for Filing Proofs of Claim” from a Houston-based bankruptcy court.  Please direct any patients with questions about this letter and any actions needed to contact the Commonwealth’s dedicated Steward Health Care call center at (617) 468-2189, or toll-free at (833) 305-2070. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.– 6 p.m. E.T. (excluding Massachusetts holidays).
