A Modern Healthcare panel moderated by CCA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert MacArthur discussed the deepening housing shortage across the U.S. and its negative impact on the wellbeing of those affected.
CCA Community Health Services Director Korvachei Hernandez, who spoke on the panel, noted housing insecurity is a major driver of health outcomes for a variety of reasons, including reduced access to care and medication and added stress for the individual. As the number of housing-insecure patients in the healthcare system grows, it is important to develop innovative support strategies, he said.
“Behind every housing-insecure patient, there is a story, and that story highlights the barriers that have left them in this position,” he said.
The session, “Healthy at Home: Innovative Strategies for Managing Health in a Housing Crisis,” was part of Modern Healthcare’s Social Determinants of Health Symposium.
