To commemorate February as Heart Health Month, CCA Health Michigan shared information with the Hamtramck Review on the prevalence of heart disease and tips to reduce risk. Genetics, age, gender, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and smoking are the main risk factors for heart disease. Certain ethnic groups are also more likely to develop heart disease than others.
Physical activity is important to heart health, with at least 30 minutes per day and five days per week recommended. Not smoking and limiting alcohol use are also important to heart health.
