Vanessa Bernecer, Director of CCA Health Rhode Island’s Clinical Outreach Program, appeared on the Spanish-language podcast Nuestra Salud to discuss identifying the symptoms of depression and seeking treatment.
Bernecer discussed the importance of viewing mental health as a part of one’s overall health, just as important as physical health. She also discussed the importance of social factors that impact health. For instance, if an individual does not have access to stable food and housing, it can exacerbate their depression. When basic needs are not met, it is also difficult to prioritize medical treatment.
