Commonwealth Care Alliance® Elects Innovative Healthcare Transformation Leaders to its Board of Directors

Appointees reflect CCA’s commitment to advancing care delivery and coordination for individuals with significant needs

BOSTON, MA – June 13, 2023 – Commonwealth Care Alliance^® (CCA) today announced the addition of Peter Andruszkiewicz, Andrea Gelzer, MD, MS, FACP, Larry Neiterman, and Karen Shields to its Board of Directors. As trusted voices with experience across the healthcare landscape, CCA’s newest Board members will provide strategic guidance, helping to improve coordination and delivery of care to the individuals CCA serves. They will also play a critical role in CCA’s continued innovation in serving populations with significant needs.

Andruszkiewicz, Gelzer, Neiterman and Shields each bring decades of healthcare experience, as well as expertise navigating the increasingly complex healthcare environment to their new roles as CCA Board members:

• Peter Andruszkiewicz is an accomplished healthcare executive who has held leadership roles at health plans across the country, such as at CIGNA, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia. He is currently a board member or advisor for several early stage, tech-enabled healthcare companies, a community board member at Lee Memorial Health System (FL) and  a member of two not-for-profit boards. His career has been dedicated to creating positive change in the ways providers deliver care, the way care is financed, and the way patients interact with the healthcare system.
• Andrea Gelzer, MD, MS, FACP, is a clinical leader with more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including as an internal medicine physician with a focus on evolving care and alternative payment models. She recently served as the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Corporate Chief Medical Officer for AmeriHealth Caritas, where she focused on creating innovative clinical business models and growth opportunities.
• Larry Neiterman is a retired Deloitte Consulting partner. His roles at Deloitte included leading the Health Care and Life Sciences consulting practice and as COO/CFO of Deloitte Consulting. His personal consulting brand was in the areas of Strategic Planning and Mergers & Acquisitions. Larry currently advises several healthcare VC/PE firms and serves on a series of for-profit and not-for-profit boards. He also took a company public via a special purpose acquisition corp. (SPAC).
• Karen Shields is the current Chief Client Engagement Officer at Gainwell Technology, where she oversees technological innovation for clients and their members, as well as in her previous positions at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the ACA Healthcare Exchanges. As former Deputy Director of the CMS Center for Medicaid and CHIP services, she supported the delivery of healthcare to over 86 million individuals. She has a keen understanding of the complex intersection of technology and healthcare to best serve populations with significant needs.
