Dr. Abdelaal joins CCA with 25 years of experience managing integrated health plans and care services for individuals with complex needs
BOSTON, MA – June 21, 2023 – Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA), a mission-driven healthcare services organization offering health plans and care delivery programs designed for individuals with significant needs, has named Hany Abdelaal, D.O., President of Clinical Services for the organization. Dr. Abdelaal joins CCA after serving for over a decade as a physician executive at VNS Health, one of the largest not-for-profit home- and community-based healthcare organizations in the U.S.
In this newly created executive team role, Dr. Abdelaal will have oversight of all clinical services, care delivery, and quality functions, and will work collaboratively and cross functionally across the organization to guide, improve, and advance the experience of CCA’s customers. Abdelaal will be responsible for scaling and enhancing CCA’s uncommon care® model to ensure CCA remains at the cutting edge of care delivery innovation focused on delivering a best-in-class, equitable experience to the people we serve.

In 2015, Dr. Abdelaal became President of VNS Health Plans, the health system’s safety-net insurance organization offering both Medicare Advantage and New York State Medicaid Managed Care products. In this role, Dr. Abdelaal pioneered several innovative care management programs and tools, oversaw the organization’s disaster response efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and Super Storm Sandy, and led the organization to achieve substantial membership growth and high-quality scores from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. While at VNS Health, Dr. Abdelaal successfully led the integration of several health plans serving individuals with significant needs, including SelectHealth’s HIV Medicaid SNP and the Independent Care System of New York’s Managed Long Term Care Plan for Persons With Disabilities. Prior to joining VNS Health in 2012, Dr. Abdelaal was Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Elderplan, a Medicare Managed Care plan servicing the New York City metropolitan area.

Dr. Abdelaal holds a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from St. John’s University.
