Dr. Laura Clapper, Medical Director for CCA Health California, was on “This is Rural Health”, a podcast by the California State Rural Health Association, to discuss the impact of food insecurity in rural communities.
During the interview, Dr. Clapper discusses the many factors that can lead to both chronic and acute food insecurity, including limited income, lack of transportation, medical conditions, natural disasters, and even societal stigma. Dr. Clapper also illustrates the complexities of food insecurity by sharing the story of a member who was using the emergency room for a warm meal.
